Both Oglaf and modern stage burlesque are more risque than classic burlesque. Before we can truly say that it is burlesque, normally thought of as physical performance, we have to establish what Oglaf isn’t. Though not every Oglaf strip contains graphic nudity or sex, a great many of them do. Sex and desire are everywhere. Calling it pornographic would not be inaccurate, but, while you could certainly get your rocks off to Oglaf, surely there are more focused places for that. Just like burlesque, titillation is part of, but not the entire appeal. So perhaps it’s not porn, per se, but erotica.

Oglaf may not be sexy enough to be considered porn (the creator describes the comic as a "sex comedy"), but we have to commend anyone who labels sections of their website with a "SFW!" warning (as opposed to... oh, you know). The website is currently in "teaser" mode, with a limited number of strips available (actual launch in 2009), but we have a feeling that those in search of a dirty, funny, fantasy-inspired comic would do well to keep an eye on Oglaf.
Now there’s no shortage of sex online. And a fair bit of dirty comic material. There’s even multiple sites featuring sex webcomics. (Many of which you’ll see advertised on Oglaf’s site.) But Oglaf stands out because it’s not about tickling your naughty regions but instead your funny bone. The closest thing I’ve come across is Phil Foglio’s old XXXenophile comics, but even those, while similarly cartoony and with a certain winking humour, were still mostly setup, drawn out sex scene and punchline. Sort of like parody porn movies. Oglaf instead, is a really funny comic that happens to combine fantasy and adult material.
Trudy Cooper and Doug Bayne keep the Oglaf site pretty minimal, there’s no about us or much of anything else besides the strips and a link to their store. (And a banner ad that is usually for other porn comics or a funny parody ad.) If you hunt around enough, you can find some interviews. Oh, and Oglaf has its own . (Y’know, in this context, that word sounds really dirty.)
