The article revisits the debate on bettaleseve or nude worship at Chandragutti in Karnataka, focusing on the protests against the practice that erupted in the mid-1980s involving Dalit and women's groups. It examines the historical and cultural significance of the bettaleseve ritual, its implications for Dalit women's expression of spirituality, and the mythology surrounding the goddess Renukamba that contextualizes the practice. By analyzing the socio-political layers of nudity in the ritual, the article aims to articulate a Dalit woman's perspective on this unique form of worship.
